UMCOR Sager Brown is a disaster relief supply depot in Baldwin, Louisiana. Each year, more than 2,000 volunteers prepare approximately $4 million in relief supplies for shipment from the UMCOR Sager Brown Depot in response to disasters in the United States. UMCOR Sager Brown Depot reaches out to its local neighbors through food distribution, housing rehabilitation projects, and other community outreach efforts. There are many activities to participate in, so no matter what your skill level is or what type of work you prefer, you can find it at Sager Brown.
Support HUB In August
Sunday, August 24
Do you know what it’s like to go to school hungry? If it’s been a while since you were in school, perhaps you can think about starting your work day hungry. At Kent Meridian High School, all students are eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch because most of their families do not earn enough money to afford the cost of feeding their children. But what happens when the kids get hungry between meals, their families don’t have food at home for dinner or weekends, or they don’t have the personal hygiene supplies needed for basic life? Kent United Methodist Church steps in to support their “HUB,” and that is what happens.
HUB is a program created by teachers at the school whose hearts couldn’t accept seeing their students go without their needs being met. The program is housed in its main office, where students can come by to pick up snacks, meal components, and personal hygiene items such as shampoo, deodorant, and laundry detergent. Every month, we deliver a variety of essential items, including food, personal hygiene supplies, and more. This could not have happened without the generous financial donations of our congregation. While the program receives some donations from other organizations, it primarily relies on our church, as funding from others has substantially decreased over the past few years.
On Sunday, August 24, we invite you to make a donation to HUB. This is our once-a-year effort to raise enough money to fund this mission for the year. You can submit donations via KUMC’s online portal or check. Please write “HUB” on the donation. Or, if you prefer to donate by cash, we will accept that at church on the 24th. Our goal is to provide at least $500 worth of supplies monthly. We hope you will join us in this critical mission.
Foster Parents Needed!
Calling all caring individuals in King County! Your help is urgently needed to support vulnerable youth and teens in foster care in YOUR community.
Becoming a foster parent can provide the stability and care these youth and teens desperately need. Together, we can make a real difference in their lives and help them build a brighter future. By fostering a youth or teen, you can help build trust and stability during difficult times, prepare them for adulthood, and become a meaningful mentor.
You can foster the future and create a better tomorrow for these vulnerable young people.
