Christian Meditation

Are you feeling stressed? Are you overwhelmed by events in the world?  Are you busy shopping and preparing for the new school season?  Please consider joining us on Sunday, August 16, after service for a time of meditation.

Brian Kohler, MTL, MT-BC, NMT, will provide a meditative and relaxing space with Native American Flute music for you to pause in your week and be in the moment. There will be several ways to experience this opportunity: Scripture Verse coloring pages and art supplies will be provided for you to focus on the word of God. Bring a yoga mat and find a comfortable position to sit or lie and let the music guide you to a place of peace and refreshment. Or you can sit in a chair or on the floor where it’s comfortable, close your eyes, focus on your breathing, and be in a space of gratitude for the things that God has done in your life.

Bill Gauthrie of Soul Shepherding offers the following thoughts on Christian Meditation.

To meditate — or be “mindful” as is often said today — in the Christian tradition is to reflect on Scripture, with the help of the Holy Spirit, in order to be fully present to God with our thoughts, feelings, and desires. Quiet prayer, soul talk, nature, music, poetry, and art can also facilitate meditation.

Psalm 19:14 says, “May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.”

Christian Meditation is the filling of the mind for the purpose of . . .”:

  • Pondering passages of the Bible so I can understand God’s character and values better

  • Slowing down, breathing deep, and recognizing God’s presence with me and God’s action in my life

  • Experiencing God’s peace

  • Being challenged to grow into Christ’s image

  • Experiencing Jesus’s companionship in my daily life

  • Becoming more like Jesus and bearing the fruit God wants to bring forth in me

  • Marveling in God's truth and beauty

  • Allowing God to call me to prayer through pondering God’s truth and beauty
